New Moon Ritual for the dawning of a new age of humanitarian action. The New Moon is a time to set an intention and commit to caring for it so it may grow and strengthen over time. It is a time for planting seeds. In the sign of Aquarius, we can grab on to the lofty dreams and humanitarian nature of the sign as well as the airy ability to act passionately without getting bogged down emotionally. Aquarius is the water bearer. Water is the element of emotion. We can see the act of water bearing as the ability hold great emotion, but in a contained, controlled way that benefits those around us. We need this ability if we are to maintain a passionate fire to care for our fellow beings without getting burned out. This is for the long haul.
What you will need:
1 7-day ritual candle in glass container in any color of your choice (besides black - black candles are for clearing work. We are doing work to "call in"). Do not overthink the color. Choose whatever you are drawn to first.
1 piece of Ruby
1 printed image of the World card XXI
Pen or pencil
Matches
Lavender (optional)
Bergamot oil (optional)
STEP ONE: Cleanse your space, holding the intention that you are preparing it for a sacred operation and that only those beings working for the highest good of all are invited
STEP TWO: Gather your supplies and settle in to your cleansed space
STEP THREE: (optional) Put one drop of Bergamot oil in the top of the candle and trace it with your finger 3 times clockwise around. Bergamot oil helps to release stress and fuel motivation.
We use it here to keep ourselves from becoming fatigued, to make our energy last the long haul.
STEP FOUR: (optional) Sprinkle a small amount of crumbled lavender flowers in the top of the candle. Lavender flowers are calming to the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. We use it here to keep our hearts and minds clear from anxiety so we can be sharp and focused in our work.
STEP FIVE: On the back of the printed World card, tell the Universe what your humanitarian role is. What vulnerable populations do you serve? What and whose rights do you fight to protect? How do you put this into action? What direct action do you perform each day, week, month, year to serve your fellow citizens of this world? Please notice that I am speaking in the present. We always write intentions in the present-tense for the most powerful manifestation. These are magic words. Do not become overwhelmed. There is much pain and suffering in the world. Each of us has an important role. Listen to your heart and your guides if you are confused about what your particular role is. You will know.
The World card represents the moment between an ending and a beginning. It is a card of incubation, of anticipation of the next chapter to be built on the wisdom and work of the previous.
STEP SIX: Place the candle and the Ruby on top of the World image (image side up). Ruby is the stone of passion. It infuses us with the courage and strength to stand up for what is right, to follow our true path.
The reason any color candle will work for this ritual is that our roles are all connected to different parts of our energetic bodies. Some of us will need our hearts fired up and we will choose a pink or green candle. Some of us will require an extra dose of confidence and we will choose a yellow candle. An orange candle promotes creation, a red, strength and grounding. A blue candle can connect to the throat or the 3rd eye for external or intuitive communication. Purple, to the spirit realm or life force energy of Reiki. I have chosen a white candle to draw in the wisdom and power of the Divine to assist in my role of guiding us in spiritual self-care.
STEP SEVEN: Light the candle and spend a few minutes in quiet meditation reflecting on your humanitarian role, your goals, and your connection to the Moon, the Universe, and all your fellow beings here on this planet.
Let your candle burn until it goes out on its own in a fire-safe place. While it is burning, be sure to stay aware of any signs, symbols, or messages that come through. These can be from loved ones, strangers, dreams, signs on the street - anywhere. Spend a few minutes with your candle each day, reminding yourself of the promise you are making to yourself and your community. And of course, take action each and every day.
Happy New Moon, my loves! Let me know how it goes. XoxoMLH
