New Moon Ritual for loving release of all that does not serve us. The New Moon in Capricorn has some tough love for us at the end of an already tough year. Ruled by Saturn, planet of contraction, this moon pushes us to find anew the discipline to release everything we hold onto out of habit and comfort that is actually weighing us down and to grow our ability to recognize and release our own baggage as the moon waxes to full. To connect to this energy of loving release, we call on the archetype of the Death card XIII.
*A note on the Death card: This card is one of the most commonly frightening to those new to Tarot, but it is actually one of the most positive omens that can come up in a reading. Death comes to assist in the forward motion of life and the Universe, to help us to release all that no longer serves our highest good and purpose.
What you will need:
1 white or black 7-day ritual candle in glass container - Choose based on gut instinct. Don't over think it.
1 piece of obsidian
1 printed image of the Death card XIII
Pen or pencil
lavender flowers (optional)
rosewood oil (optional)
STEP ONE: Cleanse your space, holding the intention that you are preparing it for a sacred operation and that only those beings working for the highest good of all are invited
STEP TWO: Gather your supplies and settle in to your cleansed space
STEP THREE: (optional) Put one drop of Rosewood oil in the top of the candle and trace it with your finger 3 times clockwise around. Rosewood restores harmony, an energy deeply beneficial during times of difficult release.
STEP FOUR: (optional) Sprinkle a small amount of lavender flowers in the top of the candle. Lavender flowers are calming to the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Their influence will help ease the pain of releasing things we have been needlessly attached to for a long time.
STEP FIVE: On the back of the printed Death card, write an appeal to the archetype of Death on the topic of releasing patterns/thoughts/habits/relationships/material things/beliefs that need to be cleared for you to fulfill your highest purpose. Keep in mind that your highest purpose serves you and your community in equal measure and that some things that feel good or comfortable to you personally will need to be released for the good of the whole.
*If you have chosen a black candle: You are working to give control over to the Universe to do your clearing in the best way it sees fit. You are stepping out of the way and allowing the release to take place without your interference. The lesson is that of giving up control.
*If you have chosen a white candle: You are calling on your Guides and Angels to show you what needs to be cleared so you can take action to release from your life that which is no longer serving you. The lesson is that of being your own advocate.
STEP SIX: Place the candle and the Obsidian on top of the Death image (image side up). Obsidian clears and transmutes negativity and carries messages from the Spirit world.
STEP SEVEN: Light the candle and spend a few minutes in quest meditation reflecting on your process, your goals, and your connection to the Moon, the Universe, and all your fellow beings here on this planet.
Let your candle burn until it goes out on its own in a firesafe place. While it is burning, be sure to stay aware of any signs, symbols, or messages that come through. These can be from loved ones, strangers, dreams, signs on the street - anywhere. Practice an extra amount of self-care as the release process can be draining and somewhat painful. Give yourself extra space, take a longer bath, eat nutritous food, be alone or around loved ones as needed.
Happy clearing, my loves! Let me know how it goes. XoxoMLH
