It is time to look within to see how we can better utilize and integrate disparate aspects of ourselves in order to be a better partner to other individuals, work and family groups, the Universe, and primarily ourselves. With the Sun and Moon conjunct in Gemini, we get a breath of mutable Air energy into the corners of our psyches and an opportunity to make a fresh start. We all have aspects of ourselves that we shove into the darkness, the "evil twin" of the Self we hide from the world. At this New Moon in Gemini, we work to draw that shadow self into the light to be re-integrated and honored so we can move forward with all the strengths of our whole Selves.
To accomplish this integration in the Gemini vibes, we turn to The Lovers. As I wrote in my column for The Numinous this month, The Lovers was once predominantly seen as an indication of romantic love. But modern Tarot scholars see it as more symbolic of internal and external partnership and pairings, a lesson in maintaining distinct identity in order to be a more fulfilled and fulfilling partner. Internally, this can be experienced as allowing the Shadow Self to remain distinct, but giving her a seat at the conscious table.
At the Full Moon on Scorpio 2 weeks ago, we shook the psychic skeletons in the closet free to release those that were not serving us. Now we look to those that remain and draw them in to be fully integrated aspects of our identities.
You will need:
· 1 yellow 7-day ritual candle in glass container
· 1 piece of Lapis Lazuli
· 1 printed image of VI The Lovers
· Pen or pencil
· Dried rose petals (optional)
· Rosewood oil (optional)
STEP ONE: Cleanse your space, holding the intention that you are preparing it for a sacred operation and that only those beings working for the highest good of all are invited
STEP TWO: Gather your supplies and settle in to your cleansed space
STEP THREE: (optional) Put one drop of Rosewood oil in the top of the candle and trace it with your finger 3 times clockwise around. Rosewood oil promotes compassion. We use it here to open our hearts in compassion for our ourselves and to ask for compassion from parts of our Selves we have neglected.
STEP FOUR: (optional) Crumble a dried red rose petal in the top of the candle. Red roses symbolize love and passion. We use them here to infuse our beings with love for the entirety of our beings. Red also balances the yellow candle and blue Lapis Lazuli as the 3rd primary color at play in the ritual, supporting the ideas of balance and inter-dependence we are working with.
STEP FIVE: On the back of the printed Lovers card, write a list of the 9 attributes of yourself you feel most strongly since our clearing work of the Full Moon. Do not judge these as they come to you and do not edit based on what you think the best ones are or should be. The purpose here is to allow these attributes to remain fully themselves as they are invited in to the conscious fold. Beneath the list (or grouping), write something honoring the above aspects/attributes/concepts/traits. For example: "I honor and am grateful for all of these parts of my Self, for all of my inner Selves, and for the opportunity to allow each to speak and be heard." Use your own language and write something that resonates for you.
STEP SIX: Place the yellow candle and the Lapis Lazuli on top of The Lovers image (image side up). Lapis Lazuli opens inner vision, allowing for intuitive exploration of the inner realm and deep knowledge of Self. It also helps to awaken the Royal within.
The yellow candle lights up the Solar Plexus, giving us the confidence to see and to express our True Selves.
STEP SEVEN: Light the candle and spend a few minutes in quiet meditation reflecting on the beauty and contentment of your new life. Know that the Moon, the Universe, and all your Guides and Angels and Ancestors will be here to assist and support you. Let your candle burn until it goes out on its own in a fire-safe place. While it is burning, be sure to stay aware of any signs, symbols, or messages that come through. These can be from loved ones, strangers, dreams, signs on the street - anywhere. Spend a few minutes with your candle each day, visualizing and experiencing your transformation and expansion.
Happy New Moon, my loves! Let me know how it goes. XoxoMLH
